Top Marketing Tips You Need to Know for 2022

Marketing in 2022 is all about showing customers your business can meet their needs by delivering relevant, valuable, and quality content. Showing the right content to the right people at the right time will separate your brand from the rest.

The first step to cater to your audience the right way is learning more about them. This involves getting to know which online channels they spend the most time on, understanding their search intent, and more.

That way, you can deliver the content your customers love, which is the key to winning them over and boosting conversions.

In this post, we’ll discuss some of the top marketing tips to help you reach your target audience in 2022.

Match the 3 C’s of Intent

Google’s main goal is to show users the most relevant search results for any search query. The key is to do this in as few clicks as possible. This is why certain websites rank higher than others.

Google has many ranking factors that determine how high a site will rankat the top of the search results. For example, pages that visitors regularly share on social media or that visitors spend a lot of time on are more likely to rank. These tendencies signal to Google that the site’s content is useful and relevant.

So, websites that people are engaging with the most have one key thing in common—matching search intent almost to a tee.

To match search intent for your chosen keyword, consider analysing top-ranking pages for the 3 C’s of intent:

  • Content type: This includes blog posts, videos, landing pages, categories, or products. For your target keyword, which types of content are ranking the highest in the search engine results pages (SERPs)?
  • Content format: Applies mostly to blog posts, which might include how-tos, listicles, news articles, opinion pieces, or reviews.
  • Content angle: Refers to the main “selling point” of the content.

Find the Best Platform for Your Business and Audience

We all know that advertising is a key part of a complete digital marketing strategy. However, many business owners don’t put much thought into choosing the right ad platform.

While there are many great ad platforms out there—including Google Ads, Amazon Ads, and social media ads—some of them aren’t the best for certain industries and audiences.

For example, if you’re looking to target an older audience, it’s important to think really hard about where they’re spending most of their time online. Would social media ads be a good choice? Let’s take TikTok for example.

Millennials and Gen Zers are the primary users of TikTok, so it might not be a great idea to run ads on the platform that target older users.

Understanding what each platform is focused on also helps. For example, think of Facebook as the news network, Instagram is about shopping and inspiration, TikTok is about shortform video for entertainment and education (edutainment) and LinkedIn is about company announcements and achievements.

Take some time to think about which platforms are important to you (in order) and what type of content is appropriate.

Produce Content at Scale

The more content you produce, the more opportunity you create to engage and grow your audience. There’s also the pressure of Content Darwinism driving the need to continually produce new content. Take some time to think about how you can produce content and make the most of it. For example, one long-form video (90 seconds or more) could be cut up and repurposed with snippets, quotes, stills, social copy and more.

So by producing one long form piece regularly, and spending the time to maximise the output, you can create a lot of content around a simple message quickly. Use a simple scheduling tool like Buffer to schedule the content to post automatically in the future and in no time you’ll have a strong pipeline of content posting across multiple platforms.

Create a Winning Social Media Advertising Strategy

Social media has always been popular and the COVID pandemic has accelerated the growth of social platforms. Social Media ads are the most effective way to show your content to a broader audience of people who fit the targeting criteria you’ve selected.

Start by trying to identify your key audience segment on Social Media - who are the people most likely to buy your product or service? Then try and find out what these people are typically searching for when they’re facing the challenges your product or service solves. Use this insight to inform the messaging and audience targeting you use on Social Media Ads.

An effective social advertising strategy requires a lot of testing and learning from data. Running single ad campaigns or boosting posts isn’t an effective way to reach the right people and measure the impact that spend is having. How do you know if your ads are working unless you are testing and measuring?

Finally start small. Don’t amplify anything (IE spend money on it) unless you’ve tested it and can validate its working. Spend a little, test, measure; rinse and repeat until you have reliable, predictable and profitable results that you can scale up.

Use Social Proof and Testimonials

When it comes to creating ads, it’s important to add a differentiating element that sets your brand apart from competitors. Your ad shouldn’t just be a piece of content that sells the concept of your product to potential customers. Otherwise, your audience could wind up scrolling right past it.

Instead, your ad should provide value in some way. It should make people stop what they’re doing to see what your brand has to offer and why they should buy your product.

One way to achieve this is by showing testimonials. Who could be better at selling your product or service than your current customers? Promote what they’re saying in your ads to give people the social proof they need when making a purchasing decision.

Testimonials and reviews ARE the new word-of-mouth. Because, let’s face it, when a potential customer reads a positive review about a product, they’re more likely to buy it.

Online reviews impact about 67% of purchase decisions. So, it makes sense that seeing current and former customers rave about your product can boost the effectiveness of your ad.

If you want to add the power of testimonials to your ad, you can easily create them with Otterfish’s Ad Creation tool.

Test Everything

You have to test and measure. If you aren’t, you just aren’t in the game. How do you know if your content is resonating or your ads are working? On Social Media, the same people you want to see your ads and content are the same people the biggest companies in the world are also targeting with theirs - and they’re investing big into learning as much as they can about what these people respond to so they can intercept them cheaper. It’s called data-driven marketing.

A single ad campaign or boosted post is really like playing roulette in comparison.

Otterfish now allows the novice at digital marketing the ability to run tests to real audiences and find out quickly and cheaply what is working and what isn’t. Otterfish allows anyone to execute data-driven marketing to understand what is giving you the best results. That way, you can continue to use the more effective strategies, and abandon the ones that aren’t working. We call them Smart Ads™.
